STUDENT AUDITION INFO

All students enrolled in an instrumental music class with participating band directors in Contra Costa County are eligible to audition for the Contra Costa County Honor Band. Students must submit the "CCCHB Student Music Audition Form" below.
HOW TO AUDITION
1) Speak with your director! They need to know you are interested in participating. Your band director must complete the director registration form and submit payment by 5pm November 1.
2) Prepare your music- see specifics below.
3) Submit your recordings via the "CCCHB Student Music Audition Form" link below no later than 5pm Nov 8.
Audition Results will be posted on this site by December 1st.
Audition Requirements and Recording Instructions

The audition requirements are as follows:

All Wind Players must record the selected California All State Scales and a prepared etude or solo that demonstrates their ability and contains contrasting styles

The prepared etude or solo is selected by the student.

The prepared music should demonstrate both lyrical and technical playing and can be from different passages or pieces

The prepared music should be no longer than 4 minutes in length

Percussionists must record a prepared etude, solo, or piece on the following:

Snare
-
Timpani
-
Marimba or Xylophone

All recording files must be uploaded and submitted to the CCCHB Google Form no later than Friday, November 8th

Take the time to make a quality recording.

The only approved format is an MP3.

Scales, while they can be recorded in any order, need to be assembled in the correct order as noted on the scale sheet, and uploaded as one track with 3-5 seconds in between passages. Recordings missing scales may be disqualified with no refund offered.

Students must upload the written music of their etude or solo. Copies of music must be high quality copies and completely legible.

DO NOT RECORD ANY SPOKEN WORDS ON ANY RECORDING TRACKS. Listening will be done blind (without any identifying features).

DO NOT use piano accompaniment or pre-recorded tracks.

Play passages as near the specified tempos as possible, using the preferred performance practice for that piece.

Omit long rests.

Do not digitally alter tempo, pitch, rhythm or dynamics. Do not digitally splice within phrases. Excerpts and scales not following these guidelines may be disqualified with no refund offered.

LISTEN TO YOUR ENTIRE RECORDING. Make sure that everything is recorded and audible in the required order.

I certify that this recording is my own performance and that I have not used any technological means to enhance my performance.

I understand that my audition, and related fees have been submitted/paid by my director Friday, November 8th.

I understand that I am auditioning to participate in the 2024-2025 Contra Costa County Honor Band and that if accepted I will fulfill my commitment to participate in all rehearsals and performances.
